New Haven police probe hit-and-run that critically injures juvenile cyclist

NEW HAVEN — A serious motor vehicle collision involving a black sedan and two bicyclists, one of whom is a juvenile, is under investigation by the New Haven Police Department after an incident on Forbes Avenue on Aug. 24.

At about 11:13 a.m., officers responded to reports of a collision at 4 Forbes Avenue.

Witnesses and video evidence prior to the collision indicated that a black sedan traveling west on Forbes Avenue had two bicycle operators holding onto the vehicle from the side of its front windows.

According to a cooperating witness at the scene, the cyclists lost control and fell as the vehicle neared 4 Forbes Avenue.

The juvenile male cyclist sustained a head injury and was transported to Yale Pediatric Hospital at 1 Park Street, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The black sedan involved in the incident fled the scene immediately following the collision.

The New Haven Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation.
