Two-vehicle crash on I-89 off ramp in Swanton leads to DUI #2 arrest

SWANTON — A collision on the northbound off ramp of I-89 Exit 21 resulted in the arrest of a Toyota Tundra driver for operating under the influence on Aug. 23.

Vermont State Police responded to the incident around 4:36 p.m. after Lee Collins, 43, of Alburg, collided with a stationary Ameri Gas propane truck.

The truck, driven by Richard Soule III, 54, of Enosburg Falls, was stopped on the ramp when Collins’s Tundra struck it from behind.

Despite the impact, there were no injuries reported and the propane truck sustained no damage or leaks.

Collins, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, exhibited signs of alcohol impairment.

An investigation confirmed Collins was under the influence, and he was taken into custody for DUI.

Authorities also discovered Collins was driving with a suspended license and was in violation of conditions of release related to previous alcohol and driving offenses.

He faces multiple charges, including DUI #2 and Driving with a Suspended License.

Collins received a citation and was booked following the crash.
