Library in Branford evacuated after bomb threat, now cleared

BRANFORD — A bomb threat received via email this afternoon prompted the evacuation of the Blackstone Memorial Library, according to the Branford Police Department.

Staff at the library contacted the police immediately after receiving the threat.

The New Haven police bomb squad was called in to assist with clearing the building.

As a precaution, surrounding streets were closed to traffic.

Authorities urged the public to avoid the area and expressed gratitude for their patience during the emergency response.

In an update, the Branford Police Department announced that the building has been cleared and area roadways have reopened.

Despite the clearance, the investigation into the source and credibility of the threat is ongoing.
