Worcester police probe series of armed robberies targeting delivery drivers

WORCESTER — The Worcester Police Department’s Detective Bureau is actively investigating a string of armed robberies involving pizza delivery drivers across the city.

According to authorities, the first in a series of incidents occurred on Lund Street just after midnight on Aug. 12, when a male driver was confronted by two individuals.

Upon attempting to provide change for the delivery, one of the assailants brandished a firearm and the duo fled with an undisclosed sum of money.

The pattern of crime continued on Aug. 15, when at 11:59 p.m., police responded to an armed robbery on Doane Street.

The delivery driver, also male, reported that two men approached him, one wielding a firearm, and demanded his vehicle keys.

Following the driver’s compliance, the suspects stole his vehicle, which contained his iPhone, wallet, and a quantity of cash.

A similar incident was reported on Esther Street at about 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 18, with a delivery driver being accosted by two males, one of whom produced a firearm.

The robbers made off with the driver’s iPhone and an unspecified amount of cash.

Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported in connection with these robberies.

It remains unclear whether the same individuals are responsible for all three events.

As the investigation continues, the Worcester Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward.
