North Haven man surrenders after overnight standoff with SWAT team

NORTH HAVEN — Officers responded to a report of shots fired at a Cloudland Road address on Aug. 19 at around 8 p.m. Upon arrival, North Haven police found spent casings in the driveway and attempted to communicate with a 50-year-old man inside the garage, who became uncooperative and barricaded himself in the residence.

For public safety, the south central regional SWAT team was called to handle the situation.

Throughout the night, the individual fired multiple shots from his home, some at SWAT officers, who returned fire.

The standoff concluded this morning at about 9:45 a.m. when the man surrendered after negotiations.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The New Haven States Attorney’s Office, Office of the Inspector General, and State Police Central District are currently at the scene to assist with the investigation.

Authorities have expressed gratitude for the community’s patience as they worked to ensure a safe resolution.
