Naugatuck man arrested after assaulting woman, fleeing police

NAUGATUCK — A Naugatuck man was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a woman and then running from police on Aug. 13.

At around 6:30 p.m., Naugatuck Police responded to reports of an assault near Church Street by the municipal lot.

Witnesses identified the suspect as 23-year-old Anthony Martinoli, who was seen walking away on Park Place.

Upon spotting the police, Martinoli attempted to flee but was apprehended immediately.

The investigation revealed an argument between Martinoli and the woman escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in injuries to the female victim.

She was later evaluated at a local hospital.

Martinoli is facing charges of second-degree assault and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest.

He was held on a $100,000 bond and appeared at Waterbury Superior Court the following day.
