Bennington man missing, car found abandoned near Sherman Reservoir

WHITINGHAM — Vermont State Police and the Bennington Police Department are actively investigating after a 59-year-old Bennington man went missing earlier this week.

Matthew Housekeeper was last seen the morning of Aug. 14, and concerns were raised when he did not arrive at work and was subsequently reported missing on Thursday.

His vehicle, a white 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, was discovered at 11:30 a.m. Friday abandoned near 2445 Tunnel St., close to the Sherman Reservoir.

State troopers arrived at the scene to process it and began a search operation in the vicinity.

Despite their efforts, Housekeeper was not found by nightfall.

Search crews have announced plans to continue their efforts on Saturday morning.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Housekeeper’s whereabouts to contact the VSP Westminster Barracks at 802-722-4600 or the Bennington Police Department at 802-442-1030.

The Vermont State Police will release further details as they become available in the ongoing investigation.
