CONCORD — An inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Berlin was sentenced to an additional 9 months in federal prison on Friday after admitting to possessing a makeshift weapon, U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young announced.
Kareem Davis, 23, received the sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty for having a weapon while incarcerated.
This new sentence will run consecutively to his current 108-month term for a 2020 kidnapping in the District of Columbia.
U.S. Attorney Young emphasized the seriousness of Davis’s actions, stating, “The defendant continued to put others in danger instead of focusing on rehabilitation.
The additional sentence should serve as a stern warning that threats to the safety of inmates and staff will not go unpunished.”
On May 3, Davis was found with a shank during a search at FCI Berlin.
He confessed to corrections officers and handed over a toothbrush sharpened into a point, modified with a handle made from latex gloves.
This marked the third time Davis was caught with a weapon during his federal incarceration.
The investigation was led by FCI-Berlin’s Office of the Special Investigative Supervisor with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s assistance.
