WINCHESTER — A 47-year-old registered sex offender from Winchester has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly engaging in an unlawful online relationship with a minor.
Travus S. Barnes was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 13, by detectives from Troop C of the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
The arrest followed an investigation that started on July 23 when the New Hampshire State Police were tipped off about Barnes using Snapchat to solicit sexual contact from someone under the age of 16.
Barnes, who was convicted of sexual assault in 2014 and is registered under NH RSA 651-B:2, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, specifically soliciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements.
The arrest was made with support from the Winchester Police Department.
He was taken into custody and was scheduled for arraignment in Keene District Court on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
As the investigation continues, detectives express concern that there may be more victims who have yet to come forward.
They urge anyone with information related to the case to contact Detective Edward Horton at (603) 931-0660 or via email at [email protected].
The New Hampshire ICAC Task Force remains vigilant in its efforts to combat internet crimes against children, emphasizing the importance of protecting minors from online predators.
