Bellows Falls man dies in Westminster crash

WESTMINSTER — An 87-year-old Bellows Falls man died following a vehicle crash on US Route 5 at the intersection with Coolidge Street, officials reported.

Hugh Haggerty, the operator of a 2022 Toyota Tacoma, sustained fatal injuries in the accident that occurred under clear skies and on dry road conditions.

The Westminster Barracks received a report of the crash on Aug. 10, and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found the Tacoma with significant front-end damage.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and details regarding whether Haggerty was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident have not been confirmed.

Haggerty was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The police have not provided further information about the crash as the investigation continues.
