SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man was arrested after allegedly committing retail theft and unlawful trespass at two local stores, police said Wednesday.
Stephen Loewe was charged with retail theft in violation of 13 V.S.A. § 2575 and unlawful trespass in violation of 13 V.S.A. § 3705, according to the Springfield Police Department.
The incidents began Aug. 9 around 8:45 p.m. when Family Dollar employees reported a bald man in a grey tank top had stolen a hand basket full of food items and a comforter, leaving in a silver van with a black front bumper.
Later that evening, at approximately 9:27 p.m., Shaw’s Super Market reported a man matching the same description entered their store and took a basket full of merchandise.
Employees identified the suspect as Loewe, who was seen leaving in a silver Toyota Sienna with a Vermont truck registration.
Officer Guzzo, leading the investigation, determined that Loewe had allegedly taken merchandise from both stores without paying and unlawfully entered Shaw’s after previously being prohibited from the premises.
Loewe was located at the Springfield Park and Ride near the described vehicle and was issued a criminal citation.
He is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit on Oct. 8 at 8 a.m. to face the charges.
