Several arrested on assault, drug charges in Rhode Island crackdown

PROVIDENCE — In a series of coordinated law enforcement actions, members of the ACI Investigations Unit and HIDTA and VFTF Task Forces have arrested several individuals on various charges ranging from assault to drug trafficking.

On Aug. 7, Lamar Lungelow, 24, was charged with simple assault or battery.

Lungelow, whose last known address is 28 James Street, Providence, was arraigned in Third District Court and subsequently released to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department.

The same day, Marlene C. Espinal, 28, of 52 Reynolds Avenue, Apartment #2, Providence, faced charges including the conveyance of unauthorized articles to or from an institution and possession of a controlled substance.

Espinal was also arraigned in Third District Court and released to the Sheriff’s Department.

Additionally, Thad E. Carman III, 32, from 2071 New London Turnpike Street, Apartment #1R, Coventry, was charged with escape from a correctional institution.

Carman underwent arraignment in the same court and was released to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department.

Michael C. Crouse, 46, of 18 Slate Hill Road, Cranston, was charged with being a fugitive from justice.

Following his arraignment in Third District Court, Crouse was released to the Sheriff’s Department.

On Aug. 9, Elvin Torres, 24, residing at 24 Lavaughn Street, Providence, was arrested on charges including possession with the intent to deliver fentanyl and controlled substance conspiracy.

Torres was processed at the Lincoln Barracks, arraigned in Sixth District Court, and is being held without bail.

The same task forces also arrested Jose Nunez, 35, of 25 Wentworth Street Apt #1, North Providence.

Nunez faces similar charges to Torres for possession with the intent to deliver fentanyl and related conspiracy.

He was also processed at Lincoln Barracks, arraigned in Sixth District Court, and is being held without bail.
