Boston police arrest suspect in Mattapan package robbery

BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers arrested a man Thursday evening in connection with a robbery that occurred in the Mattapan neighborhood.

At about 6:31 p.m., on Aug. 8, officers from District B-3 took a report from a victim who was delivering a package at 16 Estella Street when the suspect allegedly stole the package after threatening to smack the victim.

The suspect then fled the area by car.

Following an investigation, detectives obtained the registration of the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

A BOLO (Be On the LookOut) was issued for the suspect’s vehicle.

An officer on detail duty spotted the vehicle at 3371 Washington Street and called for assistance to conduct a traffic stop.

Officers from District E-13 stopped the vehicle at School Street and Walnut Street, where they apprehended the suspect and later towed the vehicle pending a search warrant.

Garvis Arias Lara, 28, of Roxbury, was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery.

He is expected to be arraigned at Roxbury District Court.
