BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit arrested a man on firearm charges late Sunday night after a routine traffic stop in Roxbury led to the discovery of a loaded gun.

At about 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 11, officers patrolling the area near Columbia Road and Quincy Street observed a vehicle making an illegal U-turn from the middle lane.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Eskalin Villalona of Jamaica Plain, pulled over at 242 Magnolia Street when officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.

As officers approached the vehicle, they noticed Villalona attempting to exit his vehicle and instructed him to stay inside to address the traffic violation.

According to the police, Villalona appeared extremely nervous, and his hands were trembling.

Upon further investigation, officers asked Villalona to step out of the vehicle.

A subsequent pat frisk of the car revealed a Glock 43 with seven rounds in the magazine hidden under the driver’s seat.

The magazine had a capacity for ten rounds.

Villalona was taken into custody and faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

He is slated for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
