BOSTON — Two men were arrested early Monday after Boston police officers intervened in a violent altercation in Mattapan that left one person with non-life-threatening injuries.
At about 1:49 a.m., officers from District B-3 patrolling the area of 477 River Street came upon a group of individuals engaged in a dispute.
The situation escalated, and officers were flagged down by bystanders reporting a fight in the street.
Upon arrival at the scene, police witnessed one suspect kicking the victim while another was stabbing the victim.
The officers quickly intervened, subduing and handcuffing the two assailants, identified as Jose Rafael, 27, of Boston, and Aristy Wellington, 28, of Bronx, New York.
A knife was recovered by detectives who responded to the scene.
As police rendered first aid to the victim, Boston EMS was called to the location.
The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital.
Wellington has been charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Rafael faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
