STOCKTON SPRINGS — A tractor-trailer carrying a large wind turbine blade to Columbia collided with a railroad bridge over Rt. 1 early Friday morning, causing the vehicle to overturn and block the road.

Maine State Police reported that the accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. No injuries were sustained in the crash, which left the major thoroughfare obstructed.

Crews are expected to work for several hours to upright the overturned load and transfer it onto a new trailer.

The objective is to return the turbine blade back to the port in Searsport.

During the clearance operations, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

Authorities have not provided a specific timeline for when Rt. 1 will reopen to traffic.

Further updates will be issued as the situation progresses.
