HANOVER — Hanover Police officers arrested two women on charges including shoplifting and unlawful firearm possession following a Monday evening incident at a local major retail store.

Around 8 p.m. on Aug. 5, officers responded to a call from an employee who spotted two known shoplifters, later identified as Ashleigh Fouls of Quincy and Mizika-Slay Mizhari, allegedly concealing merchandise and leaving the store without paying.

Officer Damron Yancey located and stopped the suspects’ vehicle as it attempted to exit the store’s parking lot.

During the stop, Officer Yancey observed a firearm on the driver’s floorboard and commanded Fouls, the driver, not to touch the weapon and to exit the vehicle.

When she failed to comply, Yancey and Detective Steve Moar removed her from the vehicle as she resisted.

Sgt. Matthew Gerrish and Officer Shaun Doyle apprehended the passenger, Mizhari, and secured the loaded and unregistered firearm.

The stolen items were recovered and returned to the store.

Fouls faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, conspiracy, resisting arrest, and shoplifting.

She was arraigned at Hingham District Court and is being held on $15,000 bail.

Mizhari was charged with shoplifting and conspiracy.

After her arraignment at Hingham District Court, she was released on personal recognizance.

The Hanover Police Department commended the responding officers for their professionalism and teamwork in diffusing a potentially dangerous situation and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
