Claremont man charged after shooting, car chase ends in rollover

CLAREMONT — A Claremont man faces multiple charges after a shooting incident at a local McDonald’s escalated into a high-speed chase resulting in a vehicle rollover on Saturday night.

Claremont Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 9 p.m. at the fast-food restaurant.

Upon arrival, officers discovered shell casings and interviewed witnesses who recounted an altercation between the occupants of two vehicles.

As the confrontation heated up, a white Volkswagen GLI sped away from the scene with one person reportedly firing shots from the car window.

The suspect vehicle, driven by 22-year-old Dylan Lyles of Charlestown, New Hampshire, then fled towards Newport on Washington Street.

The pursuit ended when the Volkswagen collided with several cars and overturned on Barton Whitney Road.

Lyles’ passenger was rushed to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with potentially serious injuries, while Lyles was taken into custody.

Lyles has been charged with two counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, two counts of Conduct after an Accident, and Aggravated DWI.

He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled for arraignment on August 12 in Sullivan County Superior Court.

The Claremont Police Department acknowledged the assistance of the Newport Police Department and the NH State Police, as the incident spanned multiple jurisdictions.

The investigation remains active.
