PETERBOROUGH — A police chase early Monday morning resulted in a collision, a vehicle fire, and the arrest of a local man known to have an outstanding warrant.
At around 7:00 a.m., Peterborough Police officers attempted to stop a white Jeep Cherokee on Parmelee Drive.
The driver, identified as Codie Anderson, 27, of Hancock, was known to the officers as having an outstanding warrant and no valid driver’s license.
Anderson sped away, leading police on a chase that ended when his Jeep collided with a 2024 Toyota Corolla on Old Street Road, driven by Ann Leighton, 59, of Hillsborough.
Following the collision, Anderson’s Jeep veered off the road and into a wooded area where it caught fire after Anderson had exited the vehicle.
Police officers were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
Leighton was transported to Monadnock Hospital with an arm injury, and her car sustained significant front-end damage.
Anderson, who was unharmed, now faces multiple charges, including disobeying an officer, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, driving after suspension, operating an uninspected motor vehicle, and violation of flaps and guards requirements.
Anderson’s Jeep was heavily damaged and towed from the scene.
He was held on preventative detention and is scheduled for arraignment later today in the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey.
The officers involved in the incident were Lieutenant George Xenakis, Sergeant Joey Sweeney, Master Patrolman Craig Edsall, and Trainee Officer Steven Maurice.
