Bellingham woman hit by vehicle while aiding child

BELLINGHAM — An elderly woman was injured this morning after being struck by her own vehicle on Plymouth Road, according to Bellingham Police.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., police and fire crews responded to the incident where the initial investigation revealed that the woman had been attempting to back into a driveway.

Upon noticing a child fall off a bicycle, she exited her vehicle without putting it in park.

The car rolled back, knocking her down and partially running her over before it continued to roll into a nearby residence.

Bellingham Fire personnel requested a helicopter to transport the woman to a nearby trauma center.

She was conscious at the time of transport, but there has been no update on her condition.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Bellingham Police and CEMLEC Accident Reconstruction Team.
