MORRISTOWN — A Waterbury man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 76-year-old Morristown resident last month.

Theodore Farnham, 52, was taken into custody on Aug. 1 following an investigation into the death of Richard Cote, whose body was discovered in his home on July 24, Morristown Police Chief Jason Luneau said.

Officers responded to Cote’s residence at 813 Elmore St. around 8 a.m. on July 24 after an associate expressed concern for his welfare.

Upon entering the home, police found Cote deceased.

The death was initially deemed suspicious, and an autopsy conducted at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington determined the cause to be homicide.

Farnham is being held at Northeast Regional Correctional Facility and is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 2 at Lamoille Superior Court in Hyde Park.

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation, including the Vermont State Police Major Crimes Unit, Stowe Police Department, Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, Hardwick Police Department, and Vermont Fish and Game Wardens.
