BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit arrested a man on breaking and entering charges after he was allegedly caught stealing packages in the city’s downtown area.
At about 7:58 p.m., on Monday, July 29, officers responded to a report of a larceny in progress at 224 Hanover Street.
Boston Police Operations provided a description of a suspect observed taking packages, which led officers to David Loughran, 36, of Stoneham, who matched the suspect’s description upon their arrival.
Loughran, who was already known to the officers and had two active arrest warrants, attempted to flee as police approached, resulting in a brief foot chase.
Authorities apprehended him near the Greenway and Surface Street.
During the arrest, officers recovered an unopened package and a pair of pliers from Loughran, and they also found multiple loose pills in his left pant pocket upon searching him.
The existing warrants for Loughran were out of Boston Municipal Court, including charges of breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, receiving stolen property, possession of Class B drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and carrying a dangerous weapon.
Following his arrest, Loughran faces additional charges of breaking and entering daytime for felony, larceny from a building, possession of burglarious tools, possession of Class E drugs, and resisting arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
