Boston man arrested for assault with a knife in downtown area

BOSTON — At about 2:25 a.m., on Monday, July 29, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) apprehended Tahjay Jones, 26, of Boston, for alleged assault and battery following a call about a person with a knife near 2 Center Plaza.

According to the Boston Police Department, officers were dispatched after receiving reports of a male suspect, later identified as Jones, chasing customers with a knife.

Upon their arrival, they learned that a patron had been randomly attacked with a boxcutter.

It was also reported that a second individual had been assaulted during the incident.

While one victim declined medical attention, the other was transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Officers spotted Jones in a vehicle with several females outside of a nearby bar, matching the suspect’s description.

He was detained without further incident.

Jones faces charges of Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault and Battery.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Boston Municipal Court.
