SANDGATE — A local man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license after crashing his car into a tree on Tudor Road, Vermont State Police said.

Edward T. Weiss, 55, of Sandgate, was driving a 2006 Toyota Matrix when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on July 29 at 6:54 p.m.

The weather was partly cloudy with warm temperatures, and road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the accident.

State Police responded to the crash and found Weiss at a nearby residence.

The vehicle sustained minor front-end damage, and Weiss suffered minor injuries, for which he was treated at SVMC Bennington.

Weiss, who was wearing a seat belt during the incident, displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody.

He faces his fourth DUI charge and was also cited for violating restrictions related to an ignition interlock device.

After processing, Weiss was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on Sept. 30 at 8:15 a.m.
