Traffic stop in Hyde Park leads to firearm recovery, teen arrest

BOSTON — A routine traffic stop in Hyde Park early Sunday morning resulted in the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of a 14-year-old suspect, according to the Boston Police Department.

At about 1:30 a.m. on July 28, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted a traffic stop at 149 Wood Ave. after observing a vehicle exceeding the speed limit and with an expired registration.

Upon approaching the stopped vehicle, which contained an operator and three passengers, officers discovered and seized a .22 caliber revolver with a defaced serial number from the waistband of a 14-year-old passenger.

The firearm was loaded with five live cartridges.

Detectives from the Youth Violence Strike Force confirmed the make and model of the revolver as a North American Arms .22 caliber and took custody of the weapon.

The young suspect was placed under arrest and is expected to face charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

The juvenile is slated for arraignment on the specified charges.

Further details regarding the incident and the identity of the suspect have not been released.
