EAST HAVEN — A shelter in place order was issued briefly after the East Haven Public Safety Communications Center received reports of multiple gunshots fired from a house in the 20 block of Charnes Drive at approximately 11:35 p.m. on July 26.

Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter around 27 Charnes Drive, where the suspect, later identified as Michael Farino, born on Sept. 14, 1981, fired several series of gunshots from the rear of the residence.

A shelter in place order was issued to area residents as the South-Central Regional SWAT Team was activated.

After a brief standoff, telephone contact was made with Farino by Sergeant Molly Perry, who persuaded him to exit his residence slowly with his hands up.

Farino was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the East Haven Police Department for processing.

With the assistance of Officer Kevin McGuire and his recently certified K9 partner Gunner, the firearm used in this incident was located hidden within the residence.

Michael Farino was charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Breach of Peace 2nd Degree, and Carrying a Firearm while Intoxicated.

Farino is currently being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, July 29, at GA 23, 121 Elm Street, New Haven.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Authorities are requesting that anyone with audio or video of the gunshots in the area of 27 Charnes Drive contact Detective Jon Trinh at [email protected] or at 203-468-3820.
