Worcester police arrest two teens, recover stolen moped

WORCESTER — Two teenage boys were arrested early Friday morning on charges of armed robbery and assault after allegedly stealing a moped at gunpoint, authorities said.

Worcester Police officers responded to a reported carjacking around 2:30 a.m. on July 26 in the area of Hooper Street.

The victims, also youths, were riding on a moped when they were confronted by two individuals, one of whom brandished what seemed to be a firearm before taking the vehicle.

Additional reports led officers to two boys running through nearby backyards.

A brief chase ensued before the suspects, aged 16 and 15, were detained.

Following an investigation, the teens were charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.

The stolen moped was successfully located and recovered by the police.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the event.
