Mattapan man faces kidnapping, assault charges after Tewksbury incident

TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus announced the arrest of a Mattapan man charged with kidnapping and multiple counts of assault following an incident at a local motel.

Isiah Malik James, 28, of Mattapan, faces charges including three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, intimidation, vandalism of property, threat to commit crime, and robbery.

The Tewksbury Police Department responded to a call from a Haverhill man on Wednesday, July 24, around noon, reporting an assault at the Motel 6 in Tewksbury earlier that morning.

An investigation revealed that the victim and James knew each other and had arranged to meet at the motel the previous day.

Authorities also discovered that James was employed in North Andover.

Collaborating with Haverhill and North Andover Police Departments, Tewksbury Police located and arrested James without incident.

Following his arrest, James was held without bail and appeared before the Lowell District Court on Thursday, July 25.
