Morristown man found dead, police investigate suspicious circumstances

MORRISTOWN — Morristown Police Department officers discovered the body of 76-year-old Richard Cote during a welfare check early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officers entered Cote’s residence at 813 Elmore St. at about 6:30 a.m. after an associate expressed concern for his wellbeing.

Upon arrival, police found Cote deceased.

The circumstances of his death are considered suspicious, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

The Morristown Police Department, assisted by the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit and Crime Scene Search Team, is actively investigating the case.

Officials have transported Cote’s body to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for further examination.

While the investigation is ongoing, the MPD reassures the public that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no perceived active threat to the community.
