KENSINGTON — Authorities in New Hampshire are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead following a standoff on Olivia Lane.
Attorney General John M. Formella and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall provided an update on the situation that unfolded late yesterday.
The incident began at around 12:05 p.m. on July 22, when Kensington police were responding to a call related to a mental health issue from the previous night.
Information was received about a male in the residence threatening another occupant.
The Seacoast Emergency Response Team and the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit were called to the scene, resulting in a standoff that lasted several hours.
The confrontation escalated, and at approximately 10:30 p.m., six officers fired their service weapons, and one officer used a less-lethal munition on the armed male in the home.
Despite efforts to save the man’s life, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
No officers were physically harmed during the incident, and officials have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice, alongside the State Police Major Crimes Unit, is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.
An autopsy is to be scheduled, with the deceased’s identity to be released upon its completion.
The officers involved will remain unnamed until formal interviews are conducted.
The investigation into the specific details of the deadly encounter is active and ongoing.
