Kennebunk Savings Bank warns customers of new phone scam

1 min read

KENNEBUNK — Fraudsters posing as Kennebunk Savings Bank employees are targeting customers in a recent phone scam, attempting to gain access to personal banking details, the bank warned Tuesday.

Bank officials have received reports of calls made to customers claiming their accounts have been compromised.

The scammers ask for sensitive information such as Online Banking credentials, full account numbers, passwords, debit card numbers, texted codes, and CVV numbers.

According to Kennebunk Savings, the criminals use this stolen information to make unauthorized purchases.

When customers receive a text message to verify the transaction, the fraudsters persuade them to approve the fraudulent activity.

In some instances, customers are also being asked to download a malicious app on their cell phones, which could give scammers access to all their personal data.

Kennebunk Savings is urging customers to protect their accounts by hanging up on any call that requests personal account information, such as full account numbers, Online Banking credentials, usernames, card numbers, PINs, passwords, texted codes, or CVV numbers.

The bank emphasizes that it will never ask clients to approve fraudulent transactions or to download apps onto their personal devices.

Customers who receive such calls are advised to hang up immediately and contact the Kennebunk Savings Customer Care Team to report the incident.

The bank is actively working to ensure account safety and prevent further fraudulent activities.
