NORWELL — A motor vehicle accident on Saturday led to the hospitalization of two individuals and the arrest of a Hingham man after police discovered illegal substances in the crashed vehicle.

At 4:12 p.m., Norwell Police responded to a collision on Grove Street near Franklin Road, where a vehicle had veered off the road, striking a utility pole and coming to a stop facing the opposite direction.

The driver and a passenger were attended to by Norwell Fire Paramedics and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

While preparing the vehicle for towing, officers observed what seemed to be psilocybin mushrooms in the car.

The vehicle was impounded at the Norwell Police Department to await a search warrant.

After obtaining the necessary search warrant, detectives searched the car, finding several glass jars containing psilocybin mushrooms.

The Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called in to photograph and weigh the substances.

Colby Burns, 22, faces multiple charges, including possession of a Class C substance, intent to distribute a Class C substance, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and crossing marked lanes.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to process the evidence collected.
