Rutland, MA man charged with child sexual assault offenses

RUTLAND — Following a thorough investigation, the Rutland Police Department has arrested 54-year-old Shawn Baillargeon on multiple charges related to child sexual assault, authorities announced Tuesday.

The investigation began on May 30 after the department received reports of sexual assaults occurring over several years, with multiple complainants.

The case was handed over to the detective bureau for further inquiry.

Baillargeon faces serious charges including aggravated rape of a child, rape of a child, and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

He was taken into custody this morning with the aid of the Massachusetts State Police.

After his arrest, Baillargeon was transported to the East Brookfield District Court for arraignment.

The Rutland Police Department has praised the courage of the victims for coming forward and encourages others who have suffered sexual abuse to do the same, assuring that the department will provide full support.
