MEDFORD — Officers from the Medford Police Department apprehended two suspects on July 10 following a reported shoplifting incident at a local Kohl’s store.

At about 9 p.m., Officers Clemente and Mauro were dispatched to the Kohl’s on Mystic Valley Parkway after a theft was reported.

The store’s Loss Prevention Officer informed the authorities that a man and a woman had used a theft detection removal device to conceal merchandise before fleeing the premises.

The officer provided a vehicle license plate number which was circulated to all on-duty personnel.

Sgt. DeCristofaro spotted the suspects’ vehicle entering the Fellsway Plaza parking lot and initiated a traffic stop.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the theft detection device, along with a firearm, ammunition, and a locked backpack.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found the backpack contained various prescription drugs not prescribed to either suspect.

Emanuel Silveira, 38, of Revere, was charged with Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked License, and Possession of a Class B Drug.

Both suspects are being held pending their arraignment.
