BALDWIN — A violent collision between a car and a motorcycle on Route #113, also known as Pequawket Trail, in Baldwin left two people seriously injured early Saturday morning, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The crash occurred at 8:31 a.m. when Yousif K. Abbas, an 18-year-old driver from Brownfield, was traveling westbound in a red 2014 Mazda.

Abbas was reportedly passing another vehicle in the oncoming eastbound lane over a hill when he collided head-on with a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 29-year-old Isaiah Reynolds of Hiram.

Reynolds, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.

He was later transported to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Abbas’s vehicle rolled over several times after the crash.

He was also not wearing a seatbelt and was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

Baldwin Fire, Standish EMS, and Sacopee Valley EMS responded to the emergency alongside the Sheriff’s Office.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team, assisted by the Maine State Police and Gorham Police Department, is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.

Speed, unsafe passing, and driving to endanger have been identified as contributing factors.

Following the incident, a section of Route #113 was closed for over three hours to facilitate the investigation but has since been reopened.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that upon completion of the investigation, they will consult with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office to determine possible charges.
