SANDGATE — A motor vehicle incident involving a towing mishap left an 18-year-old from Bennington seriously injured on July 15.

Vermont State Police reported that at 7:34 a.m., they responded to a crash on SE Corners Rd near Woodcock Rd under clear and dry conditions.

Austin Carrier, 20, of Sandgate, was towing a green 1994 Jeep Cherokee with a chain, driven by Jalen Davis, 18, also of Bennington.

As Carrier’s white 2001 Jeep Cherokee ascended an incline, the driveshaft failed, causing both vehicles to roll backward.

Both operators jumped from their vehicles, but Davis tripped and fell, unable to move away in time.

The white Jeep rolled over Davis, resulting in serious bodily injuries.

Davis was airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

The severity of the injuries is currently undisclosed.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Shaftsbury Barracks, assisted by Arlington Rescue, are continuing the investigation.

Charges and the issuance of vehicle citations are under consideration pending further details of the crash.
