BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a Dorchester man on firearm and drug charges after a routine traffic stop Friday night.

At about 8:10 p.m., on July 12, officers were patrolling near Blue Hill Avenue and Talbot Avenue when they noticed a vehicle without an inspection sticker making improper lane changes and weaving through traffic.

They initiated a stop using their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.

Upon contact, both the driver and passenger appeared extremely nervous.

The driver, identified as Kelvin Ortiz-Guerrero, 25, was sweating and unable to answer basic questions.

The passenger also seemed anxious and shifted his seating position during questioning.

After a further investigation, officers instructed the occupants to exit the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk.

Inside, they discovered a Springfield Hellcat firearm with twelve rounds in the magazine and an obliterated serial number, five bags containing fentanyl, a scale, and an additional live round of ammunition.

Ortiz-Guerrero was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, a large capacity feeding device, defacement of a firearm serial number, and trafficking of Class A.

His arraignment is set to take place in Dorchester District Court.
