GREENWICH — The Greenwich Police Department has issued a scam alert to residents after reports of phone calls from a supposed “detective Steve McMorris” claiming an outstanding summons at their address.
Authorities stated the calls are fraudulent and urged the public not to respond.
The department confirmed it employs no one by that name and clarified that the Old Greenwich Police Department, which the caller also claims to represent, does not exist.
Residents receiving such calls are advised to simply hang up and disregard the message.
The police are investigating the scam and ask anyone with information to contact the Greenwich Police Department.
