SPRINGFIELD — Following a two-month investigation, Springfield police arrested three men Tuesday afternoon, seizing a loaded firearm, heroin, cocaine, and Xanax in a crackdown on drug dealing near Fernwold and Baldwin Streets.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., detectives from the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), with the assistance of the Springfield Police K-9 Unit and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, apprehended the suspects in an SUV.
The arrests followed surveillance of suspected drug transactions occurring at 12:15 p.m. and again at 3:15 p.m.
Doughlas Moss, 21, was taken into custody from the front passenger seat.
Officers found 33 bags of heroin, crack-cocaine, and $1,906 on Moss.
The backseat held Khalil Laboy, 20, who had a loaded firearm strapped to his waistband and was found in proximity to two bags of cocaine and 15 bags of heroin, along with $108.
Springfield Police K9 Flexx alerted detectives to narcotics in the vehicle, leading to further discoveries.
The driver, 30-year-old Luis Alicea-Rivera, was found with heroin, Xanax pills, and over $2,300 in cash.
The charges against Moss, Laboy, and Alicea-Rivera include possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm without an FID card, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and possession with the intent to distribute Class A, B, and E drugs, reflecting the various substances recovered by police.
