Seymour Lake gets $36K grant for invasive species prevention

1 min read

MORGAN — Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC) has awarded a $36,612 grant to the town of Morgan and the Seymour Lake Association for aquatic invasive species prevention at Seymour Lake.

The program, running since 2000, operates daily from Memorial Day weekend through October, inspecting boats and educating lake users about invasive species prevention.

A boat decontamination station will also be used for watercraft from high-risk water bodies.

The initiative has gained importance following the discovery of zebra mussels in nearby Lake Memphremagog.

Officials advise a 30-day waiting period after leaving Lake Memphremagog before entering other waterbodies.

VTDEC plans to dredge the fishing access area for two to four weeks starting mid-July. During this closure, greeters will inspect non-motorized watercraft at the Seymour beach parking lot.
