PORTSMOUTH — A high-speed pursuit ended with the arrest of a Massachusetts man late Monday night after he hit a New Hampshire State Police cruiser with a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on July 8, Trooper Cameron Vetter from Troop A barracks spotted a gray 2012 Toyota Camry speeding over 100 mph and weaving through lanes on Interstate 95 northbound in Portsmouth.

When Vetter attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 42-year-old Steven Hebert of Worcester, Massachusetts, increased speed and refused to stop.

The chase continued into Kittery, Maine, as Hebert drove the Toyota reported stolen from Wilmington, Massachusetts, erratically and at high speeds.

New Hampshire State Police pursued the vehicle with assistance from Maine authorities.

After exiting I-95 at Exit 3, the Kittery Police Department took over the pursuit’s lead role, with New Hampshire officers providing support.

The chase came to a stop in York, Maine, where Hebert drove down a dead-end road, turned around, and collided with New Hampshire State Police Trooper Matthew Dushame’s cruiser.

Hebert was arrested without further incident, and there were no reported injuries from the crash.

Hebert is facing multiple charges in both Maine and New Hampshire related to the pursuit and possession of the stolen vehicle.

Following the incident, New Hampshire State Police were assisted by the Maine State Police, Kittery Police Department, York Police Department, and local EMS providers.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are requesting anyone with information to contact Trooper Vetter at (603) 223-4381 or via email at [email protected].
