ESSEX — A woman and her dog were attacked by two pit bulls on July 6 near Marketplace and Pinecrest Drive, prompting a response from local police and emergency services.
Essex Police Department and Essex Rescue received a 911 call at about 11:48 a.m. from the victim of the attack.
Upon arrival, first responders found the woman who had sustained multiple dog bites and a possible broken wrist.
She was transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment.
The woman’s dog, also bitten, was taken by a family member to receive veterinary care.
Witnesses reported a male and a female were present during the attack but did not offer help or call for assistance.
According to the victim, the pair left the scene with the pit bulls, heading towards Pinecrest Drive.
The dogs were described as tannish-colored pit bulls and were allegedly off-leash during the incident.
The male suspect was described as a white male, around 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing dark clothing and with brown hair.
The female suspect was described as a white female, also in dark clothing, with short brown hair and white shoes.
Essex Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has knowledge about the suspects or dogs involved.
