PEACHAM — State Police arrested a local man for disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment after he drove recklessly through a crowded area during parade preparations on July 4.

Robert Bender, 53, of Peacham, was cited after witnesses reported that he maneuvered his vehicle around a stopped car, traffic cones, and a citizen directing traffic on Macks Mountain Rd and Church St.

Bender allegedly shouted at bystanders, revved his engine, and drove in a hazardous manner near multiple individuals who were on the street for the upcoming parade.

Authorities responded to the scene following numerous complaints about Bender’s driving.

Due to the presence of children, the names of the young victims have not been released by the Vermont State Police.

Bender is scheduled to appear at the Caledonia County Superior Court – Criminal Division on Aug. 4 at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charges.
