BOSTON — A traffic stop in Roslindale led to the arrest of a local man and the recovery of a fully automatic firearm by members of the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force on Thursday afternoon.
At about 1:30 p.m., officers were patrolling Washington Street when they spotted a vehicle speeding and lacking a front license plate, which was instead displayed on the dashboard.
Upon initiating the traffic stop near 90 Brookway Terrace, the driver, identified as 24-year-old Adrian Fernandes of Roslindale, appeared nervous and attempted to flee after a brief struggle with police.
Fernandes was observed by officers with visibly shaking hands, and during the attempt to obtain his license and registration, he tried to close the vehicle’s door and restart the engine.
A subsequent pat frisk of the vehicle led to the discovery of a Glock 27 with a machine gun selector switch and eight rounds in the magazine.
After resisting arrest and fleeing the scene, Fernandes was apprehended on the roof of 105 Brookway Road.
He now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of a Sawed-Off Machine Gun, and Resisting Arrest.
Fernandes is set to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
