ATHENS — An 18-year-old from Grafton was found dead Thursday afternoon after an apparent dirt bike crash on Brookline Road, Vermont State Police said.

Ethan Whitten was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was discovered down an embankment near Valley Cemetery Road around 2 p.m., police said.

The 1997 Honda XR400 he had been riding sustained minimal damage.

Authorities had been searching for Whitten after he was reported missing earlier in the day (Case No. 24B1004495).

He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Responding to the call from a local resident, troopers along with the Grafton Fire Department and Rescue Inc. found Whitten unresponsive.

His body was later transported to the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy.
