POWNAL — A Pownal man was cited for simple assault after a dispute over a motor vehicle complaint escalated into a physical altercation, Vermont State Police reported.
The incident occurred on July 2 at around 6:11 p.m. on Pine Ridge Drive in Pownal.
Authorities said Douglas Peltier, 47, confronted 67-year-old James Zappone, accusing him of driving too fast past Peltier’s residence.
During the confrontation, Peltier allegedly assaulted Zappone, who had exited his vehicle.
State police responded to the scene after being notified of the incident.
After an investigation, Peltier was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on Aug. 19 at 8:15 a.m. to face the charge of simple assault.
Both men are residents of Pownal.
The Vermont State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
