WORCESTER — A 26-year-old Worcester man faces multiple charges after police found him asleep in a running vehicle with crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Officers responded to Elliot Street for a welfare check at 10 a.m. July 3.
They discovered Torrance Shannon Jr. apparently asleep behind the wheel of a car with the engine running, according to police.
After removing the keys for safety, officers observed a dark bag containing baggies with a powdery substance inside the vehicle.
When awakened, Shannon allegedly ignored commands to exit and moved his hands out of sight, prompting safety concerns.
Police eventually removed Shannon from the vehicle and arrested him.
A search uncovered five baggies of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Shannon was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, resisting arrest and operating without a license.
He also had three outstanding warrants, police said.
