Pittsfield man arrested in connection with June shooting

PITTSFIELD — Police arrested an 18-year-old man Friday in connection with a shooting that injured two people last month.

Deakan Sayers was taken into custody on Putnam Avenue by members of the Pittsfield Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit, authorities said.

The shooting occurred June 14 around 5 p.m. near the intersection of North Street and Bradford Street.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire found two Pittsfield men with gunshot wounds.

Both victims were treated at Berkshire Medical Center and later released.

Sayers faces multiple charges, including two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

He was arraigned Monday in Pittsfield District Court.
