Teen killed, two injured in early morning crash in Mendon

MENDON — A 17-year-old driver was killed and two passengers were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Notch Road in Mendon.

Vermont State Police said Gavin Barmore of Rutland was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2000 Volkswagen Jetta left the road and struck a tree around 5:52 a.m.

Two passengers, Timothy Moran, 19, of Chittenden and Collin Chamberlain, 18, of Rutland, suffered serious injuries and were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling northwest on Notch Road when it veered off the shoulder for reasons still under investigation.

Barmore was wearing a seatbelt, but the airbags did not deploy.

Neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
