NAPLES — A 33-year-old man died Thursday when his Tesla crashed into a tree and burst into flames on Harrison Road, creating hazardous conditions for first responders and nearby residents.
Sergi Kolesnick of Harrison, Maine, was pronounced dead at the scene of the high-speed collision, which occurred at 10:41 a.m. at 752 Harrison Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The impact caused several components of the 2024 Tesla to break apart, scattering batteries across the area and igniting multiple spot fires.
Emergency crews worked for hours to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to a nearby home and wooded areas.
Fire officials managed the scene as a hazardous materials incident.
The Department of Environmental Protection was called to assist with the cleanup, which was ongoing as of 3 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Harrison Road, also known as Route 35, is closed between the southern end of Lewis Road in Naples and the northern end of Lewis Road in Harrison.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including Naples Fire/EMS, Casco Fire, Sebago Fire, and Bridgton Fire.
